Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.
This marks his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.
Victory also signifies he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, featuring in Halle in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.
The opponent defended 4 initial opportunities in a tight third set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
